Why do you like FFARR?

Permalink Closed

Is it the pretty graphics? The story which I honestly have not much of a clue what it's about? The 'dynamic' PvE or the totally innovative PvP? (LOL)
Well for one, I've always liked the series. Though at times, the level of the fantasy can be absurd and unbelievably ridiculous. Despite that, I'm sure FF has, in some way, influenced you. Even if it's small. Might be the coolness or the inspiration of a character. Whatever.

Reason why I like ARR is actually for this reason: The simplicity.
The game doesn't try to be what it's not.
Doesn't try to go overboard and push limits.

It takes the already established material, processes and refines it to a workable level and voila. We have a well polished game. For that, I can certainly appreciate it. The PvE is still laced with bugs here and there, the GCD sometimes can be a big cup of wtf and the PvP seriously makes me giggle at myself for enduring it. Despite all that, I find it all a lot of fun and I don't really want to give that up.

I have something here that TOR has never provided. Here, Watchmen has access to both endgame PvE and PvP content. This means we get to enjoy the game in all its finest beauty. Our small-knit Zalera server actually turned out to be quite chill and we have a profound effect on its growth. Though we may have to monitor that with responsibility. Overall I'm satisfied with what I'm playing and our guild has a firm presence on it to back it up. So here's one to ARR, it's been cool for what it is.

Lol I've always liked the FF series (minus the latest ones, haven't bothered with them) and even played FFXI for like, a few months before getting exhausted by the grind.

I just remember trying the beta for this and after playing it for a little, I noticed it gave me.. a strange pull, like, same feeling I had when I started WoW.  I'm guessing it's because the system here has a strange balance that just sort of... works.  Like, the long GCDs making the game feel slow, but in reality having a profound effect by making encounters feel a little more strategic.  I dunno, it could be the fact it's another FF and I''m just being biased (lol).

Also, you guys make me laugh, so it's easy to stick around here and feel welcome :D

Yeah it's strange, I had that 'overall experience' pull from this game too when I first got into it. Which is weird, because I went in trying to hate it. Was a 180 to be blunt. Also, Watchmen's a kinda longrun deal. We like to perform top notch, like to be the best and call a certain someone's mother sometimes, but it's based on roots to outlast these games.

I started playing because I was getting bored with GW2 and I thought it would be fun to play with Watchmen again. Since I didn't want to go back to SWTOR when I saw people were playing a new game I gave it a shot. Honestly I had no interest in this game at all - zero. I just wanted to play with Watchmen again.

I like the Scholar because it's not the usual fair for healing. Usually healing is completely reactive; "Someone took damage, HEAAAAALLIINNG". Scholar healing is proactive; you block as much damage as you can, then heal whatever made it through. The healing pets make the class even more interesting. Since the pet can cast independant of their owner's GCD, it lets me be creative with the use of their heals. I was pretty apprehensive about playing a pet class, I've never really been a fan of them. Plus I had just came from GW2, where I played a Ranger because their playstyle was my favorite, but also meant I was forced to use a pet. And in that game pets are slow, fragile, unresponsive and all around shitty. Square did pets right; they scale with their owner's stats, and take greatly reduced damage, especially in AoEs, meaning you don't have to constantly micro manage them.

I also like the PvE. There's some pretty challenging content here and that's very, very unusual for an mmo. They're not making the game uber carebear. I don't find PvP very fun as a caster with no hard CC options. But I'm still interested and I'm going to try it with a warrior.

I really like ARR because of the people I've met in-game. Seems like this game attracts a lot of cool people compared to other MMO's I've played in the past.

Basically I'm saying without you guys, I wouldn't be playing.

First off, what initially attracted me to ARR was the Final Fantasy brand name.  I am a big fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, and I make no secret about it.  Final Fantasies 7, 8, and Tactics had more impact on me than any other games since then.  You could even say it partly shaped who I turned out to be as a person, in perhaps a small part.  This initially attracted to me to FF14.  The original FF14 was a failure, much to my disappointment.  However, when the company came out and apologized, promising to restructure their team, I watched their progress, and I was not disappointed.

I actually like that they are not trying to innovate.  They took Final Fantasy trademarks and put them in an MMO.  Nearly every MMO that has tried to reinvent the wheel since WoW has flopped.  Trying to innovate is very risky in this MMO market.  By instead working on what is there, and trying to improve upon these aspects and polish them to a high degree, this game has been successful.  I am a huge fanboy sure, but I objectively think that this game is 2nd best MMO out there right now, or it will be for sure probably 6 months from now.  The PvE encounters have some very interesting and sometimes challenging mechanics, for example Ultima Weapon hard mode is a very fun fight.  On the PvP side, it is a tad unbalanced but not horribly unbalanced, though there are a couple things that need to be fixed.  Regardless, PvP is addicting and once I play it with a premade and kick ass, I find it hard to stop playing.

I like where our guild currently is.  We have nearly all the server firsts on the PvE side, and we are kicking ass in PvP as well(though I wish we had more players interested in PvP.)  I can see this being my main game for a long time. :)
