Triple threat posting here, but I was also recently informed that the first level 90 D2 character sold on eBay went for over $900. Years ago. Just keep it in perspective.

I dont like the fact that certain people can just buy their way to success (Granted rl is a reflection of this, but games are an escape from it) Unless the gear was easier to farm and collect so that it won't be such a drastic shift from non-paid to paid gear. Issue is that it is.
"Good enough" gear is plenty easy to get in this game, and right now I am choosing to sell my "great" drops. The best stuff has always been pretty damn rare, difficult to come by, and quickly sold in Diablo games. Binding gear would be weak, boring, and not Diablo-esque. Its just a diff mentality than mmo's for gear grinding. I have found that you just have to have the mentality that you aren't ever going to get the best gear. Ever. After that, its just a matter of choosing how good you want to be vs how much -insert currency here- you want to make/spend vs how much time you want to invest.

The thought that someone would pay over 4 times the games worth for 1 item in said game is enough to make a person pray for an aneurism.
But even more terrible is the thought that everyone is going to try to make money off the loot they find. If you can get in game fake money or real life cashy money which would you prefer? Meaning if you want to get something good from the AH you'll most likely have to pay money for it.

I mean this was probably a biased screenshot used to draw attention to the news story. I have yet to log in and check out prices but has anyone else? I'd like to see if this is actually happening or not.

You can make money on it, instead. Buddy made $150 in 2 sales, and I recently sold something for 65ish. Easy way to get a little spending money while having fun.
If I could farm naked I'd sell all my gear for a couple hundred dollars and cash out, but I'd like to be able to continue the income stream a bit. I'm splitting auctions 50/50 between gold and RMAH.
