Well, I have the download link up and ready, sooo I'll be on this weekend(probably). With my Ethopian internet the download should finish just about in time.
Well WildStar weekend is over. I was pleasantly surprised and definitely had fun. I played Warrior (obviously) and thoroughly enjoyed the play style. It had a nice tool kit (Leap, Stun, Grapple, Mortal Strike) as well as good sustain and high burst if you could set it up right. I viewed some videos of Warriors at 50 doing arena and it looks like they get more disruption in addition to a Charge (thank god) that will most likely replace Leap. Also, fully talented Warriors can proc multiple buffs (Surge, Attack Power and Armor Piercing buffs) and if stacked can do incredible damage quickly. They also have a Defensive Stance that I saw no one else using. Once I figured out how to optimally stance dance, and when to save Overload for Shield Wall, I rarely died more than once a game, if at all. Definitely looks like an interesting and fun class for competitive arena.
As for PvP as a whole, it was very engaging and obvious that the better players usually won a fight. There was no 1 shotting or 100-0ing in a stun (although Stalkers sometimes came close) which was refreshing and made it so you always had a chance to respond or stun and run. At first the enemy ability telegraph system was a little overwhelming as I wasn't sure what was going on exactly, but as I learned the abilities of other classes, or just what was capable in general, it started to make sense and I was able to predict what abilities they would use and when. The roll and sprint system is really where skill shines and utilizing it to its full potential can make a huge difference in your gameplay. Once you have the knowledge of enemy abilities, an understanding of the telegraph system, and can use the dash system well, then you can really out play your opponents regardless of level/abilities available (I had a level 15, 12 and 7 Warrior by the end and I was doing just as well on my lowest one as my highest). I played both battlegrounds and they were fine. Not too interested though since I'll never play them over arena.
While there were a lot of positives there were some negatives as well. Stalker burst was a little high. Healers were a little too good since there's no way to interrupt casts besides a 20 second stun that gets DR'd by everyone else's (thinking about 2s balance). Getting hit while sprinting should either daze or drain your sprint meter, but not both. It's just too punishing if you're trying to run away and get tagged by a random AoE. There should be a resolve bar (sigh) above enemy players' heads to show at what DR they are at. It was annoying to have multiple people stun/knock down at the same time and the target become immune too quickly, or in some cases for you to stun an enemy and they still be immune from a previous fight when there was no way for you to know. Also some minor bugs like Overdrive not working if you've been logged on for a while, some abilities not showing that they are on cool down when they are and queue bugs/randomly getting kicked from matches. These are easy fixes though and I'm sure they'll be fine by launch.
Anyways, I'm rambling... The game was fun and I can see it having the right tools to become a major player at launch. I'll keep up to date with it in the mean time and possibly pick it up when it comes out. Maybe see you guys there.
