What's the general idea of what most people are rolling? Might be a bit early in the season, but we can start putting together a thread with info on it.
You said cookie cutter, I just put the 'best' options for each in there (imo).
Balance Shadow would be alright, just a little inferior imo. Not by leagues or anything.
Edit: ofc I think hybrids of either class are probably better than pure Balance, but that's largely opinion. Too much utility in Telekinetics and Infil to not do it imo.

I know, I was just qqing. Also, stealth makes it a good contendor I think... Ive seen some teams use a Balance Shadow properly and wield good results.

I don't think they're bad at all and I could definitely see carving a niche for them in a team.
I think that's one thing we need to consider more - team synergy. Each person we put into a rated group should have a purpose for being there, more than just "We need healz" or "We need a tank".
On Drooga's Pleasure Barge, from my experience seems the most effective comp seems to be
1 jugg/guardian tank
1 23/1/17 or 31/0/10 sin offtank (dps gear)
2 pyro pts/vanguards
1 mara/sent
2 hybrid sorc/sage healers (21/20)
1 op/scoundrel healer
Variations usually involve swapping out the op/scoundrel healer for a BH/Comm healer or another hybrid sorc/sage. My guild swaps out one PT/Vang for a sniper/GS. Right now, hybrid sorcs/sages are really strong as they can put up strong heals with good utility/survivability while being able to dps well on the side. PT/vang for obvious reasons, mara as well, sin tank just for the utility and a 2nd guard. Jugg/guard tank simply because they're the best right now.
I think Shadows are probably being a bit underrated right now - mostly due to the nerfs they just received (that's the general reaction to a nerf - assume they're now below average). Shadows still bring a lot to a team.
I think a KC as a node-holder is about as good of an investment as you can get for a single slot on a team. I wouldn't consider them 'cookie-cutter', but they're really good.
